Location EuroTeX 2009

The conference location will be the Netherlands Defence College (NDC) in The Hague, one of the educational sites of the Netherlands Defence Academy (NLDA).

NLDA mission: initial officer training and scientific education for Netherlands Army, Navy and Air Force. Three locations: Breda (Royal Military Academy), Den Helder (Royal Netherlands Naval College) and The Hague (Netherlands Defence College).

The NDC location has numerous lecture halls and classrooms of varying size. The main conference room, the Bolman auditorium, has 200 fixed seats and all the modern audio-visual equipment and interpreter booths. Parallel sessions and tutorials will be held in one or two of the smaller classrooms.

Accommodation

Meals are being served at the NDC local restaurant.

The NDC has an on-site hotel with more than two hundred individual single-person rooms. Seventy (70) of those are reserved for our use. Each of the spacious rooms has a private bathroom with shower, a desk, cable television, and a lan connection to the internet. The on-site hotel is available at no extra charge and comes highly recommended.

However, if for some reason you prefer not to stay on-site (and note that there are no double rooms), it is best to look for hotels in Delft, as the Delft city center is much closer by than The Hague. There are many on-line booking sites, just search for "Hotel" and "Delft". For instance, you could use Booking.com

The Campanile and the China Hotel are within easy walking distance, but if you like a cozy atmosphere, you should go for one of the many hotels in the city centre.

Travel

By car

Navigation software:
The official address is:

IDL
Brasserskade 227A
The Hague, The Netherlands.
Make sure to check out the location on the map below, because the micro-layout seems to confuse just about any navigation system we have tried so far.

Coming from Rotterdam:
On the A13 toward The Hague, take the exit Rijswijk Zuid / Delft Noord / Nootdorp. Turn right at the first traffic light and go straight at the second traffic lights (follow the curve to the left). The entrance to the IDL is the first exit right.

Coming from The Hague:
On the A13 toward Rotterdam, take the exit Rijswijk Zuid / Delft Noord / Nootdorp. Turn left and follow the road across the highway. Go straight on at the next two traffic lights (follow the curve to the left). The entrance to the IDL is the first exit right.

By Plane/public transport

We may be able to do some pickups, more information on that will be posted on the attendee mailing list. The directions here are useful if you have to travel on your own.

Regardless of whether you enter the Netherlands by plane, train, or bus, the last leg of the journey is best taken from Delft Train station: going to IDL from The Hague requires you to walk the last bit or do multiple stepovers in the Tram or Bus.

From Schiphol Airport:
If you fly in, the best airport to arrive at is Schiphol. There is a train station adjacent to Schiphol Airport, where you should get a ticket to Delft. You'll have to switch trains once, at Leiden. The whole train trip will take about 45 minutes.

From Delft train station:
Take bus line 60/62 toward Ypenburg / Nootdorp. Get off at the stop Defensie and cross the big road. The entrance to the IDL is the first exit right.
Alternatively, you could walk the distance (takes about 35 minutes) from the train station (A in the large map below) or take a cab to IDL.

From The Hague train station(s)
You need to catch tram line 1 in the direction;output=embed Delft Tranthof.
If you start from The Hague Central Station, you first have to take another tram to get to Spui, which is the starting point of tram line 1. You can take either tram line 9 or tram line 17 to do so.
If you start from The Hague Holland Spoor, you can get into tram line 1 directly.
You have to get off the Tram at the stop Brasserskade (that is B in the large map below). Once off the tram, there is a 15 minute walk to IDL: Walk back 50 meters in the direction the Tram came from. The second street on your right is the Brasserskade, you have to follow that street. Eventually, the street crosses over the highway. Once on the other side of the highway, the entrance to IDL is to your left, next to the gas station.
